Question Sell it all for HoM/GWAMM?

Hey everyone!

Please forgive me if this topic has been thoroughly exhausted. I'm a returning player to GW and as much as I love this game I feel I'm ready to start moving towards GW2.

My question is: I have amassed some high end items. While I do enjoy them, I am starting to question their worth. I've been told that weapons and items are NOT going to transfer over to GW2 in any way. If I am being told correctly, I am wondering if I should say my goodbyes and part with these items in order to make an investment in my characters for GW2?

And beyond that I wonder - what is a wealth in GW1 worth in GW2? Why sit on rare items, stacks of ectos or Zkeys in GW1 if they'll bring no meaning in GW2?

If someone decides that their gaming focus is going to be GW2 when it is released, and they may never look back, does it make sense to part with the materialistic aspect of GW1 now (beyond what can be put into the HoM)? Or is it recommended to hold out in case these items ever do become relevant in the next game? (A big maybe)

Thoughts? Thanks for your time!!

Many are selling their stuff to finish up homs and titles. The logic is that at least you get to take it with to gw2. No one knows how cool those gw2 things are, but if you are not going to play gw1, what difference does it make.

There is zero indication of any items transferring over to gw2 no matter how nice they are. So just plan for any weapons etc to be stuck here in gw1 til the servers shut down.

Do some math and see what you want, how soon you want it, and how much it will cost. You can sell off just enough for titles. I wouldn't transfer it all into ecto though. There's more ecto in the game than any other mat. So even if we are using ectos as money markers, it's they don't have much real value. Nice old school items that can no longer drop and/or is perfect are more cool than extra pinkies imo. Of course if the price is right...

I am currently on the other side. I have full hom and 50/50. I can trade a dozen full titles and stuff for cool items or gold. 3 buyable titles as quick as you can click. Also have mats, weapons, and minis for homs. Just waiting for the right offer(s) or the right item(s).

All items, gold, and characters are not transferable to Guild Wars 2. Your name (s) are reserved for you if you wish to reuse them. Your Hall of Monuments with achievements will be your link to the past. The points that you have accumulated will give you rewards in Guild Wars 2, that being in game items and titles.

GW1 wealth will mean nothing in GW2. I would have thought everyone was aware of this by now.
Nothing physical transfers from GW1 to GW2. All that GW1 (and the HoM) gets you is some cosmetic elements in GW2 or some /bonus type items that are mostly for show.
It's up to you if you want to sell those items to get GWAMM or HoM "rewards", but no, you won't be carrying them into GW2 with you.
Other than the few cosmetic 'rewards', you can think of GW2 as being a whole new game, similar to if you stopped playing GW and started playing WoW, nothing in GW1 would be 'carried over' to WoW.

In answer to your question in the title, I would say Yes. Sell all your junk and get GWAMM/50/50 if you want to carry something to GW2.

Quaker, my question of wealth was more of a hypothetical one. Forgive my ignorance but I've been completely out of the GW community for 2 years and am doing my best to get caught up. If I implied that I was hoping my gold/ectos/whathaveyou would instantly transfer over to GW2, that is certainly not what I meant. I'm looking forward to "starting all over again" with GW2.

I guess I was more looking for a discussion of opinions regarding keeping things for really no other reason than nostalgia VS moving on and never looking back. If we are sure that having things like EL Tonics and Elite Area weapons will never unlock anything at all in GW2 (title nor item), then there really is no other reason to keep them other than nostalgia it seems, right? I've heard some people argue in favor of this.

I guess I just wondered what the general consensus is. Most of us plan to "finish" GW1 and move on to GW2 exclusively, yes? So I'm really not off base with my idea of liquidating it seems.

Thanks everyone for the replies!

This is entirely up to you. How much do you get out of the nostalgia? How much do you plan on playing gw after gw2 comes out? How much do you value the time and effort you'll spend selling things and finishing titles and junk vs gwamm and the 50/50 rewards?

My theory is that gold, etcos, etc might be worth something in gw2. Think of how trades from pre and post work. Someone might not of every played gw1, got the second and amassed alot. However he wants the HoM rewards. He could find someone to trade his gw2 to someone who will trade his stored ectos to, so that he can fill his hall with his profits from the second game.

Well, you did seem to imply that you were asking if you could carry stuff over to GW2. Even this (quoted) question is a bit hard to figure exactly what you're asking. I mean, can't you do both - keep the nostalgia and move on?
I don't intend to get rid of any of my GW1 stuff, but I don't have any great accumulation of 'wealth' in GW1 in GW1 anyway. (Just stuff like obsidian armor.)

So, my opinion would be for you to do whatever you want with your GW1 wealth, but keep in mind you can't take it with you. You could spend some gold and time adding stuff to your HoM because you may be able to 'view' you HoM in GW2. Keep your fancy weapons, armors, etc, for nostalgia - spend the ectos on the HoM - and then move on and don't look back.

People will be running around in the early stages of GW2 displaying their HoM derived titles, mini-pets, w/e, but they will be common as dirt and very soon supplanted by the new titles, mini-pets, etc, in GW2. So, other than nostalgia, there is no need to keep anything from GW1. (Imho)

Sorry, I'm not very eloquent.

I do appreciate your input. As it turns out 30/50 is not that hard to obtain and I'm already set there. It wasn't so much for the "things" we get but more for my peace of mind to feel somewhat caught up. Ok maybe I wanted the tabby cat.

And I think I'll do just as you've said: spend the pinkies to finish up 50/50 and keep something fun/nostalgic to bust out during holiday events or something.

Thanks again for your thoughts.

I wouldnt put it past them at ANet to link stuff in GW2 with stuff yet to do in GW1.

I hope this is the case, that they will not completely leave GW1 out in the cold and independent of GW2.
